Liverpool have completed the signing of Porto midfielder Raul Meireles on a four-year deal.
Roy Hodgson moved quickly on Saturday to land Meireles and bolster the Anfield engine room following the recent departures of Alberto Aquilani and Javier Mascherano.
The Reds have paid 14 million euros (around £11.5m) for the services of the 27-year-old midfielder, who has

won four titles with Porto and been capped 38 times by Portugal, including in all four of his country's matches in this summer's World Cup.

LFC.TV: Roy on signing a new striker

on Liverpoolfc.tv:
Roy Hodgson hopes to add another striker to his squad before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
The boss has already secured the signature of Raul Meireles from Porto this weekend and is hopeful Paul Konchesky will join from Fulham in the coming days.
But that won't necessarily be the end of his business this summer.
Hodgson said: "We've got space to add a player. We'd like another striker, we've said that all along and there's no point me denying it. But we still haven't found the right man and time is running out for us."..................Read More on Liverpoolfc.tv

Europa League: Liverpool v Trabzonspor, Ryan Babel's Goal

LFC.TV: Poulsen reflects on Anfield debut

Christian Poulsen reflected on his Anfield debut against Trabzonspor and admitted it was a special feeling to play in front of the Kop.
Liverpool's No.28 played his first 90 minutes for the club during the Europa League Play-off and felt at home playing in the red shirt for the first time.
Before the kick-off on Thursday night the referee delayed the start to allow the club's anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' to finish on the PA system.
"It was something really special being out on the pitch hearing the Kop singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone," Poulsen told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"I was sat in the stand for the Arsenal game and it was great to see it, but to be out there on the pitch with them tonight was fantastic.................Read more on Liverpoolfc.tv

LFC.TV: Roy's Europa preview

Liverpoolfc.tv:
Roy Hodgson admits he will face something of a balancing act to keep Liverpool fighting on all fronts if they're to progress in Europe this season.

The Reds take on Trabzonspor in the first leg of the Europa League play-off tie at Anfield this evening aiming to take a big step towards the group stage of the competition.
It's a tournament Hodgson holds fond feeling for, having guided former club Fulham to the Hamburg final last term against all odds.
However, he acknowledges an extended European jaunt - in addition to the international scheduled - can have a knock-on effect on a team's domestic aspirations, such is the demand it places on players.
But the manager will be doing all he can to ensure that does not happen at Anfield this season.
"I had a good squad at Fulham and we didn't have too many injuries, so I was quite fortunate in that respect," Hodgson told a pre-match press conference.
"But, quite frankly, if you're at a club like Liverpool or Fulham, you've got a lot of players playing international matches and I think asking a player to play 70 matches a year is totally out of the question.
"I don't think any club can carry the strength or depth of squad to deal with 70 matches, so you'd need an awful lot of luck to go all the way.
"I thought last year's experience with Fulham in getting to the final cost us several places in the league."

Full Highlights Liverpool Vs Arsenal

LFC.TV: Roy on Arsenal

Roy Hodgson was full of praise for the battling performance of his Liverpool players - but admitted to being left frustrated by the manner of the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield.
With the scoreline still goalless, Joe Cole was sent off on his league debut for the Reds on the stroke of half-time after a challenge on visiting centre-back Laurent Koscielny, who himself was later dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Nonetheless, David Ngog fired the hosts into an early second-half lead - but Pepe Reina's 90th-minute own goal rescued a point for the Gunners.
Hodgson told a post-match press conference: "It was a fantastic effort but points are hard to come by in the Premier League and when you get so close, you can't avoid the feeling of disappointment.
"Maybe that second-half performance deserved all three points and not just one, albeit if at half-time someone had said we'd get a 0-0 or 1-1 draw I probably would have accepted that.
"But to concede so close to the end to a rather scrappy goal was tough on us. The boys did everything they could do and it was an excellent game of football. I hope the fans enjoyed the spectacle.
"It was a wonderful goal (by Ngog). It was a good piece of pressurising between Glen Johnson and Dirk Kuyt to set him up and David took the chance superbly. We had a couple of other chances in second half as well. Both goalkeepers were called into action and there were goal-mouth incidents at both ends.
"We were playing with nine men for a short period of time towards the end after Danny (Agger) had to go off with concussion and unfortunately the game lasted just four or five minutes too long for us."

LFC.TV: Defender ready to challenge

Danny Wilson admits the past year has surpassed even his wildest expectations but acknowledges there is still plenty of work ahead if he's to establish himself at Anfield.
An incredible debut season in football saw the 18-year-old help Rangers to a domestic treble and earn himself the SFA and Football Writers' Young Player of the Year awards in the process before Liverpool swooped to snap him up on a three-year deal last month.
And though understandably ecstatic at the path his career has taken so far, Wilson is well aware breaking into the Reds' first team could prove to be his biggest test of all.
"There's being patient and there's sitting back and accepting it," he said. "I want to push myself into the first team at Liverpool as quickly as I can but it's the manager's decision.
"If you ask any player if they feel they're ready to play, they'll say yes and I'm no different. If the manager feels I need more time, I'll accept it and work even harder to get into the side.

Liverpool v FK Rabotnicki

Roy Hodgson celebrated his first home game as Liverpool manager by watching his side cruise into the play-offs of the Europa League with a 2-0 victory over FK Rabotnicki.
First half goals from David Ngog and Steven Gerrard secured a 4-0 aggregate victory over their Macedonian opponents as the Reds booked their place in Friday's draw for the next play-off round of the competition.
With Liverpool's four English World Cup players named in the starting line-up - including a home debut for Joe Cole - there was a buzz around the stadium before kick-off, while the inclusion of Spanish starlet Dani Pacheco added further to the feel-good factor which has been enveloping the club over recent weeks.
Liverpool - backed by an enthusiastic home crowd who had turned out in their thousands despite the first leg cushion - started on the front foot and had the ball in the net after just seven minutes, but David Ngog was flagged offside as he bundled the ball home following a rampaging run by Glen Johnson.
The French striker should have opened the scoring four minutes later when set through on goal by Steven Gerrard, but visiting goalkeeper Bogatinov made a smart stop as Ngog delayed his shot.
With Hodgson's men enjoying total control and playing some eye-catching football, Pacheco and Gerrard both tried long range efforts before the opening goal finally arrived after 21 minutes.
Ngog - whose two goals last week put the Reds firmly in control of the tie - broke the deadlock on the night with a fine header from Cole's deep left wing cross.
Cole the provider almost turned into Cole the goalscorer minutes later, but his curling effort from the edge of the area curled just the wrong side of the woodwork.
It was only ever going to be a matter of time before the second goal came long, and it duly arrived six minutes before the break when the lively Ngog was fouled in the area and Gerrard stepped up to confidently stroke the penalty into the corner of the net................Read all

LFC.TV: Roy delight at Cole bow

Roy Hodgson admitted he was thrilled with Joe Cole's competitive Liverpool debut after the midfielder played a starring role in the 2-0 Europa League victory over FK Rabotnicki on Thursday evening.
Hodgson admitted he was buoyed by the industrious performance of the summer signing, who can consider himself highly unfortunate not to have marked his home bow with a goal.
"His energy and enthusiasm tonight meant he had a really good home debut," the boss told reporters at a post-match press conference....................................Read more

First of all Fernando, congratulations on winning the World Cup - have you had a good summer?
Yes, as you can imagine it was an amazing day for Spaniards all over the world. Winning the World Cup happens maybe once in your life so it was a fantastic feeling and a great way to end the season. I have had a break over the summer and I'm now glad to be back here at Liverpool to see all of my teammates.

We know you picked up an injury in the World Cup final. How are you feeling now, are you fit and ready to go again?
Yes, I am looking forward to the first game. I have less than two weeks to get ready but I felt really good in my first session back with the physios and the doctor. I will try to be fit as soon as possible and I am looking forward to playing at Anfield again......................Read More
